A rare, articulated carved goat head and 65 Portuguese coins decorate this welthy person's recliner from Burkima Faso on the Ivory Coast. Carved snakes transverse both sides from top to bottom. Purchased from an elderly San Francisco couple who collected it in the 1960's. The dates on the coins are from 1938 to 1944. Nothing newer. The value of these coins, un-pierced, alone is $400 -500. The Lobi chair is a great example of African design. It distinguishes itself with its highly stylized anthropomorphic form. The elegant curve of the chair, ending in an carved goat head with the representation of the sex at the opposite side, is supported by three powerful legs. The extended foot rest is not often seen.
Cracks in foot rest. Normal wear to finish and feet.
