A master in 20th century modernism, Frankle came to the US from Vienna in 1914. When he moved to Los Angeles, Frankl became a favorite of the Hollywood elite, including Katherine Hepburn, Cary Grant, and Fred Astaire. His biomorphic Art Deco forms were used in many films for their machine age aesthetic.
